Daniel Gade, Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, will visit Gloucester and Mathews counties on Saturday.His visit is sponsored by the Gloucester and Mathews Republican committees. A release said the events are open to the public.

A meet and greet will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Gloucester at the DAV Chapter 58 Building, 6265 Professional Drive. A picnic fundraiser is scheduled in Mathews at the Piankatank Ruritan Club in Hudgins, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Gade, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, was nominated in a primary in June to face incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner, who is seeking a third term.

A release said Gade served more than 20 years in the Army, and was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was wounded by enemy fire in Operation Iraqi Freedom and was decorated for valor. After a year in recovery and more than 40 surgeries, he taught at the U.S. Military Academy from 2011-17.
