71 take part in Mathews Christmas Parade

This year’s Mathews Christmas Parade, “Blue Crab Christmas,” received a total of 71 entries. Led by this year’s grand marshals Buz and Tamara Rollins, Saturday’s parade traveled from Thomas Hunter Middle School and ended at the new location of Chesapeake Bank.

After the nearly hour-long parade, children were able to visit with Santa Claus at the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center.

Winners were named in the following categories:

—Best Civic: CNC Rawlings Coastal Tigers Baseball;

—Best Animal: Pet Parade;

—Best Commercial: Forest Mulchers;

—Best Walking Unit: The Islanderettes;

—Best School: Mathews High School Varsity and JV Basketball;

—Best Parade Theme: Water Edge Farm;

—Best Motorized: Hutson Hauling;

—Best Church: Locust Grove Church, and

—Best Antique Vehicle: Sophia Verner.
