Veterans Day observances planned throughout area

Programs will be held next week throughout the area in honor of Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

American Legion Post 83, Mathews, will host its annual Veterans Day Dinner and Awards Program at 6 o’clock on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the post home off Route 198 in Hudgins.

Also on Veterans Day, Disabled American Veterans’ Chapter 58 will hold a special service at its headquarters off Short Lane in Gloucester, starting at 11 a.m.

A Gloucester Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony, organized by Middle Peninsula Detachment #1317 of the Marine Corps League, will be held at 3 p.m. the following Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial in front of the courthouse.

In Mathews

Col. John W. Evans, commanding officer of the Marine Corps Security Force Regiment, Yorktown, will be the guest speaker at next Wednesday’s dinner at the Mathews post headquarters on Hookemfair Road in Hudgins.
