Transportation facility topic of joint meeting

The question of whether to build a new transportation facility to free up the entire former Page Middle School site for economic development purposes was the main topic of conversation during Tuesday night’s joint meeting of the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors and the Gloucester School Board.

The alternative, which was also discussed during the meeting at the T.C. Walker Education Center, would be to renovate the existing facility and use the cost savings for renovations at Gloucester High School.

Members of both boards were divided on the issue, with several supervisors and at least one school board member of the opinion that an entirely new transportation facility should be built on the new Page Middle School site. That was the original plan, so that the property on Route 17 at the former site would be more marketable once it is turned back over to the county and sold for economic development.
