Meeting Monday on proposed mixed use project in Dutton

Rhetson Companies, Inc., will hold a community meeting on Monday evening at 6 o’clock at the Piankatank Ruritan Club in Hudgins to gather feedback from the community about a mixed use project that it is considering in Dutton behind the FasMart.

According to John Parker, project manager, Rhetson wants to address any questions or concerns surrounding property owners may have about its potential project. Rhetson’s goal for the project is to build multifamily homes with some small retail businesses.

Planning and Zoning Director Thomas Jenkins said that the company has applied to rezone the property from Rural to Business-2. According to Thomas, if the rezoning is successful, the developer would additionally be required to obtain conditional use permits for any of the following: a commercial building exceeding 7,500 sq. ft., any building that generates 150 or more vehicular trips during the peak hour of operation, multifamily dwellings, condominiums, townhouses, or shopping centers.
