A Red Cross blood drive held Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Piankatank Ruritan Club in Hudgins collected 56 units. Nan Cross, chair, said the drive attracted 57 people. There were two deferrals, five double donations, and two where the quantity was insufficient. Dale Jacobson received a pin marking his 10 gallons of donations over the years. Other pins were awarded as follows: nine gallons, Joseph Allen and Michael Cahter; two gallons, Coles Buchanan; and one gallon, Lynne Callis, Kim Hartlove, Sue Keys, Jeanne Lovelock, Robert Puleo and Evan Scribe. Samantha Sosa was a first-time donor. Giving blood in Mathews for the first time were Khadijah Payne, Robert Puleo, Amy Miller, Tammy Walls and Debre Albrect.
