‘Mary Poppins’ opens tonight in Mathews

“Mary Poppins,” the musical based on the Disney film, will be in performance tonight through Sunday at Mathews High School.

The lively musical tells the story of the Banks family, which is going through troubled times. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep and, using a combination of magic and common sense, teaches the Banks family how to value each other again.

The Court House Players production features Julie Blake of Gloucester in the title role, James King of Gloucester as Bert, Gary Barker of Mathews and Feron Copeland of Gloucester as Mr. and Mrs. Banks, and Victoria and Lauren King of Gloucester as Jane and Michael Banks.

Set in the early 20th century, the show has an array of seven colorful sets and numerous turn-of-the-century costume changes for the cast of 48.
