Lady Devils return to court with new coach, new faces

As the weather turns cold and Christmas gets closer, it’s that time of the year again as the Mathews Lady Blue Devils basketball team takes to the court.

Because of the volleyball team’s phenomenal season, basketball tryouts were forced to last two weeks before final cuts could be made which meant the first two scrimmages were cancelled. With the loss of five seniors to graduation, new head coach Allie Bridge had to replace 17 years of combined varsity experience from the seniors who left last year.

Lacking an abundance of height, Bridge is conditioning her team to be quick and to push the ball up the court. Bridge has been very impressed with the hustle on offense and defense that the team has showed so far and eagerly awaits the continued improvements she sees daily at practice. A former Lady Blue Devil herself, Bridge is looking forward to working with the current group of girls this season.
