With two regular season games left to go, the Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team remains in a first-place tie with West Point for the Tidewater District title. MHS lost to AA York and picked up a district win over King William in the week’s action

The MHS girls played well Saturday in their regular season home finale but fell short to the powerful York Falcons, 43-37. Mathews fought hard, coming back from a five-point deficit in the first quarter, to tie York at the half, 23-23.

York pulled ahead by seven points in the third quarter, and held on for the win. Before the game, Mathews High School honored its five seniors, three of whom are four-year varsity players. These seniors were Sharese Jarvis, Lindsay Collins, Maggie Scribe, Ashley Forrest and Sarah Burnette. Also recognized were manager CeCe Davis and cheerleader Morgan Hudgins.
