Hampton University program to reflect on 70-year legacy of Brown v. Board of Ed

Hampton University will host a program on Thursday, May 16, reflecting on the 70-year legacy of the Supreme Court decision in Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas and the companion case in Virginia of Davis v. Prince Edward County, where the court ruled unanimously that racial segregation of black children in public schools was unconstitutional.

Speakers will include HU president Lt. Gen. Darrell Williams (U.S. Army-ret.), Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Newport News). Serving on a panel discussion will be former Gov. Bob McDonnell, Hampton School Board chairman Dr. Richard Mason, Virginia Sen. Mamie Locke (D-Hampton), former Virginia Delegate and HU alum Paul Harris, and Virginia Department of Education Chief of Staff Dr. Jeremy Raley.

The event is open to the public in the Hampton University Student Center, with a reception from 3 to 4 and the program from 4:15 to 6. There is limited seating; RSVP kyle@virginiansforreconciliation.co...
