The Gloucester chapter of the Future Farmers of America traveled to Virginia Tech June 8-11 to compete in the 100th annual Virginia FFA State Convention. Chapter advisor Renee Hypes and GHS NJROTC instructor Captain Norris Merkle accompanied the 19 students. Hypes was recognized as Outstanding Agriculture Educator of the Year and celebrated the 25th anniversary of her state officer team. GHS applied for the national chapter award and was named a superior chapter, receiving a silver rating. Also, Grace Setterholm received her state degree, the highest degree that any member can receive from Virginia FFA. In addition, Natalie Walke took the opportunity to run for Virginia FFA state office and Taylor Lewis and Eastin Hogge volunteered for the Courtesy Corps where they assisted with the crops competition.
