Grand opening held for fire station

The Mathews Volunteer Fire Department held a grand opening for Bohannon Station 2 on Sunday afternoon. The new structure was filled with department personnel, family, friends and neighbors to celebrate the long-awaited station.

With two large truck bays, a dayroom, and upstairs meeting and storage space, the structure was built on land donated by members of the Daniels family.

Keynote speaker Paul Murray, assistant chief of the Deltaville Fire Department and former lieutenant and safety officer with the Chesapeake Fire Department, said he had a lot of admiration for the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department. Over the past four or five years, he said, Deltaville has called Mathews for mutual aid more than it had in the 30 years before that, and Mathews has always responded.
