GHS field hockey improves to 6-0; team tops Nansemond

 

The Gloucester High School varsity field hockey team improved to 6-0 with three recent wins. The latest was a 3-0 victory over Nansemond River at GHS on Tuesday.

“We didn’t play our best, but we played well,” said Gloucester coach Mike Miller. “I keep forgetting how young we are, some of these girls were playing middle school field hockey last year.

“We made a lot of mental errors. Fortunately, we have a very aggressive team and that makes up for a lot of things. We’re still young and still learning. I’m very pleased with the win. I just need to be more patient with how young we are.”

Gloucester got goals from Kessa Romero, Karagan Winfrey and H.P. Johnson, with Romero assisting Johnson’s goal. Goalkeeper Jillian Lawrence had five saves on the day.
