GHS baseball improves to 11-1; Dukes push toward playoffs

The Gloucester High School varsity baseball team has bounced back from the loss of its undefeated season with a four-game win streak, sweeping Bethel last week and securing victories in back-to-back games this week by defeating New Kent and Warwick by a combined score of 8-1.

Despite a final score of 4-0, the Dukes’ game versus New Kent on Monday was a pitchers’ duel much of the contest. Hunter West pitched a complete game for Gloucester, giving up only two hits, and two walks while striking out one.

On the offensive side, Gloucester mustered only five hits, with Colton Smith carrying the load in a performance that saw him go 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Brendin Bard was also credited an RBI which safeguarded the Dukes’ lead.

Gloucester would travel once again on Tuesday, this time to Warwick, where they dispatched the Raiders, 4-1. The Dukes enjoyed another fine outing by Kirkland Owens and nine hits from their offense, though all of those runs would come in a single ...
