Devils improve to 8-1 with win over Nandua

The Mathews High School varsity football team improved its record to 8-1 last week with a 43-20 victory over Eastern Shore opponent Nandua on Friday.

Coach Paul White’s Pony Express backfield was again galloping at full speed on Friday night, with James Pavik and Chris Davis combining for 349 rushing yards. Pavik carried the ball 29 times for 215 yards, a touchdown and a two-point conversion, while Davis gained 134 yards on 17 carries, adding four touchdowns.

Quarterback Ryan Ewell had one completion on the night, a 21-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Deondre Foster. Tyler Tillman was a perfect five-for-five in PAT kicks.

"We started off a little slow after the ride to the Eastern Shore, but eventually woke up," White said.
