Accident involving school bus

Members of the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc., responded Monday afternoon to a report of an automobile accident at Gloucester Point involving a school bus.

According to AVFRS spokesperson Robert Parlett, the first arriving units found three vehicles including a bus involved; the accident was blocking southbound lanes of Route 17 near the Hess fuel station. There were injuries reported from the two vehicles involved, but none of the passengers in the school bus was injured, he said.

Three AVFRS ambulances responded and patients were transported to area hospitals. School officials responded and another school bus was brought to the scene. According to Parlett, the students on the bus were released to their parents or continued their ride home on the other bus.

The bus was sitting still at the time of the accident. Virginia State Police and the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office investigated the scene. ...
