The Middle Peninsula Fine Arts Association of Gloucester will host the program “Turquoise, Jade, Shell and Feathers (oh my!): Materiality in the Ancient Americas” at 7:15 p.m. next Thursday, Feb. 20, at Arts on Main in Gloucester. It is free and open to the public. The speaker is Jeanette Nicewinter, Ph.D., assistant professor of art history at Northern Virginia Community College. Using examples from a collection at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, with which the MPFAA is a partner, she will explore how materiality in the Ancient Americas informs the artworks’ meaning. Association members will have dinner starting at 5:45 p.m. Those who would like to join in dinner at a cost of $23 should email tishgrant1@gmail.com no later than Sunday. For more information, email mpfaa1958@gmail.com....
