William Stephen Field III of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the age of 87. Billy was born in Hampton, Virginia, to William Stephen Field Jr. and Cary Lee Field. He was a strong Christian man, who was secure in his promise of Heaven. He loved his family deeply and felt so blessed to know and love all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent in the church. He served in the U.S. Air Force in several locations. He was a charter member of the Gloucester Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and ran many rescue calls over the years. One of the highlights of his retired life was breakfast at Hardee’s with his friends. Billy was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Nancy C. Field; second wife, Ann C. Field, and is survived by his wife, Kay T. Field; daughter, Marcia F. Hall (Johnny); son, Stephen A. Field (Connie); stepdaughters, Kathy Kline (Chris) and Audra Matney (Bobby); eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and his special dog, “Katy.”

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 6:30-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, or to a charity of your choice.
