Jackie Howard Edwards, Sr., age 83, of Gloucester, died on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. Jackie was born on August 19, 1943 in North Carolina to the late Wade McKinley Johns and Etta Braswell. He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority Local #329 as a Nuclear Pipe Welder. He also retired from Newport News Shipbuilding. He was a proud 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn., Lodge 706. He loved to play 9 ball pool, bowling, he enjoyed fishing, dancing, a good “pig picking,” spending time with family and “laughing out loud.” He was a loving husband and father. Jackie was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Ann Edwards, and his brother, Harold Braswell; his sister, Patricia Cabe, and his sister-in-law, Brenda Wade. Jackie is survived by his son, Jack “Howie” Edwards Jr.; his granddaughter, Sierra McKinley Edwards; his brother, Ronald Braswell (Lem); nieces, Tina, Angie, Jennifer, and Laurie; nephew, Marvin Cabe Jr.; his cousin, Leroy Brown (Shirley), and his brother-in-law, Jerrold Wade. Special thanks to the many nurses that cared for him at Riverside Regional Medical Center of Newport News 5th floor ICU on all shifts and nurses and staff at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital of Gloucester on all shifts. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 2- 2:45 p.m. followed by the celebration of life service in the chapel, conducted by Pastor Bill West, beginning at 3 o’clock, with Masonic Funeral Rites by Lodge #7 of Gloucester. The inurnment will be private. In memory of Jackie, contributions may be made to Williamsburg Hospice House, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, Va. 23188.
