Wiatt to hold book signing at Tompkins Cottage

Thomas T. Wiatt, a distant cousin of Sally Tompkins through the Todd and Field families, will be on hand at Tompkins Cottage Museum from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to sell and sign copies of his recent book, “Captain Sally: A Biography of Capt. Sally Tompkins, America’s First Female Army Officer.”

Wiatt was born in Savannah, Georgia, grew up in Newport News and has deep Gloucester County family roots. He is a graduate of Thomas Nelson Community College and Virginia Tech. He is a retired engineer from Newport News Shipbuilding, and is as a consultant for Gibbs & Cox, Marine Solutions, a naval architectural and design firm in Newport News. Wiatt volunteers at the Mariners’ Museum and Park.
