What’s new in food? Kalette, broccoflower should appear in stores soon

For the past couple of months epicureans, including the professionals, have been predicting food trends that are proposed to please your taste buds in 2015 beyond your imagination. Of the many predictions, there are few categories that are included in each one.

Let’s begin with vegetables. Hybrid is the type preferred and there are two new veggies that will be appearing more often in the grocery aisles, kalette and broccoflower. Kalette is a cross between kale and Brussels sprouts. It has a nutty, sweet and slightly spicy cabbage-like flavor. Broccoflower is a cross between broccoli and cauliflower, with the flavor of cauliflower yet a little sweeter. These two vegetables have been in specialty stores for some time but this year they will a make a leap to the produce counter of most supermarkets where they can be recognized and enjoyed.
