Welford Odell Carmine, age 92, of Hayes, died at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Odell was enlisted in the United States Air Force and retired on June 1, 1967, then went on to work for Newport News Shipbuilding and retired on Feb. 1, 1992. He was a family man who always put family first. He was a good father, a wonderful grandfather and awesome great-grandfather. A Papaw to all, he was known to enjoy the occasional cigar. Odell was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Anne Carmine; parents, Powell and Helen Carmine; sisters, Kathleen Purcell, Alice Wilburn, Hilda Carmine, Amy Carmine, Cora Aiton; brothers, Grayson Carmine, Earl Carmine, Wellington Carmine, Charles Carmine, Bernice Carmine, Boyd Carmine, and Frances Carmine. Odell is survived by his children, Dale Carmine, Wanda Smith (Howard), Lynne Carmine (Raelene), Robert Carmine (Page), Michelle Carmine; brother, Floyd Carmine; grandchildren, Christy Lindberg (Jon), Steven Carmine (Natalie), Alan Carmine (Jessie), Leslie Smith (Erin), Hope Schnadenerg (Michael), Rocky Carmine and Ryan Carmine; great-grandchildren, Calin Lindberg, Cenzy Lindberg, Carson Carmine, Chance Schnadenberg, Mina Carmine, Cooper Kemp-Smith, Hailey Carmine, and extended family, Aaron Peterson, Josh Peterson, Matthew Peterson, Chasity Walls, Kaylee Hogge, and Adam Freeman. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, from 6-7:30 p.m. Funeral service, conducted by Pastor Bill West, will be held in the chapel of Hogg Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, at 11 a.m., followed by interment in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
