Voting Tuesday in presidential primaries

Voters in Virginia, as well as 15 other states and American Samoa, will head to the polls Tuesday in Super Tuesday, with Democrats and Republicans being asked to select their candidate for November’s presidential election. In total, about half (1,215) of Republican delegates are at stake. On the Democratic side, 1,420 pledged delegates are at stake, 36 percent of all Democratic-pledged delegates. Early voting began in Virginia on Jan. 26 and continues through Saturday. On Saturday, the registrar offices in the two counties are open for the final day of in-person absentee voting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In Virginia’s dual primary system, officers of election will ask voters if they want to cast their ballot in the Democratic Party primary or the Republican Party primary.
