A mockumentary about contestants in a tandem kayak race is on the horizon, and the filmmakers will arrive in Mathews next month to prepare for filming a 15-minute video that will serve as “proof of concept” to help acquire funding for the feature film, titled “Tandem.” Local actors are being sought for several roles, with audition videos due by Monday. Filming for the short will be conducted from Oct. 1-3. Inspired by such Christopher Guest mockumentaries as “Best in Show,” the film is about three tandem kayak teams “competing for glory” in a small-town race while being filmed by a documentary crew. Each of the competitors has problems they refuse to face, says the show’s logline, and all their issues “come to a tipping point on the water.” Actors will audition by taping a scene for the part they’re interested in and sending it to the filmmaker.
