Voter registration deadline approaches

The deadline is rapidly approaching for those who wish to vote in the Nov. 4 general election. Tuesday, Oct. 14 is the last day to register to vote or make changes to your name or address to be eligible to vote.

Voter registrars in both Gloucester and Mathews also emphasized that when entering the polls in November, voters must present one of the following acceptable forms of identification: A valid Virginia driver’s license, DMV-issued photo ID card, valid U.S. passport, valid employee photo ID card, other government-issued photo ID card or valid college or university student photo ID card.

Locally, Gloucester and Mathews voters will be asked to choose between three U.S. Senate candidates and three hopefuls for the 1st Congressional District. An amendment to the state constitution is also on this year’s ballot. Additionally, Mathews voters will be asked whether they support the creation of a meals tax.
