Volunteers ready to assist residents with taxes

About 30 volunteers were in training earlier this month to once again provide free tax help to many in the community. Volunteers with the AARP Tax Aide program spend countless hours each year training, reviewing old laws and learning new laws to assist people of all ages with filing their taxes, with special focus on the elderly.

 

Tax assistance for Middle Peninsula residents will begin in early February and will be available in Gloucester, Mathews and Gloucester Point, according to Tax Aide spokesperson Mildred Montgomery.

 

This year, the organization will have tax counselors available at the following locations in Gloucester and Mathews.

In Gloucester, counselors will be available at the Gloucester Main Library Mondays from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 3 through April 14 (except Feb. 17 moved to Feb. 18) and on Saturdays, Feb. 8, 15 and 22 and March 15, 22 and 29 from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
