VIMS to hold ‘RecFish’ After Hours lecture Jan. 28

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Gloucester Point, will hold its first After Hours lecture of 2021 on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. online via Zoom. The title of the lecture is “RecFish: Engaging Recreational Anglers as Citizen Scientists.”

The lecture will feature VIMS scientists Lisa Kellogg and Eric Hilton who will discuss the development of the RecFish app, which won VIMS Innovation Fund awards in 2018 and 2019.

RecFish will aid in fisheries management by providing fish population data gathered by anglers. Get an insider’s look at how this tool can help in collecting important information about Chesapeake Bay fish species living in structured habitats, which are often missed in scientific sampling. Attendees will also learn about an opportunity to help with development of the app.
