Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad firefighters responded to a vehicle fire that threatened a structure Tuesday evening off Carmines Island Road, Hayes. According to AVFRS spokesperson Robert Parlett, firefighters arrived on scene just before 6 o’clock to find a car with its engine in flames. The car was parked in front of a carport with another vehicle and several sets of tires inside. Parlett said the fire was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported.
