VDOT crew replacing Old Pinetta Road bridge

 

A Virginia Department of Transportation crew is replacing the Route 610 (Old Pinetta Road) bridge at Pinetta in Gloucester County this week.

 

Motorists have to use a detour marked with signs around that area, said Kelly Hannon, a spokesperson for VDOT. The work, which began Monday, is expected to be completed Sunday.

 

The superstructure replacement will include new steel beams, a new deck and new guardrails. Hannon said the existing abutments will remain in place.

 

Tina Bundy, another VDOT spokesperson, said Tuesday that the bridge is being replaced because it is substandard. A seven-ton weight limit has been in effect there since 2011, which she said will be lifted once the new bridge is completed.

 

UPDATE: Route 610 (Old Pinetta Road) in Gloucester County is now open to traffic. The Virginia Department of Transportation completed this bridge work on Friday, Dec. 20, two days ahead of schedule.
