Use of drones in archaeology topic of talk

Ashley McCuiston will present a program titled “Archaeology in the Palm of Your Hand: Using Drones and 3D Printing to Bring Fairfield Plantation to Life,” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Kingston Episcopal Parish, 370 Main Street, Mathews.

The program, which is sponsored by the Mathews County Historical Society, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Drone technology is being used to re-imagine public archaeology and historic preservation using aerial photography and 3D printing, a release stated. The process produces an interactive 3D model that can be taken apart like a puzzle to enhance preservation of endangered historic resources and inspire new interest in local history. McCuiston is the Public Outreach Coordinator and Digital Curator for Fairfield Foundation.
