Thomas to seek sixth term as treasurer

Tara Thomas, Gloucester County’s treasurer for the past 19 years, has announced her intention to seek a sixth term in the post. Thomas, 48, will seek the Republican nomination for reelection this fall.

A resident of Hayes, Thomas said she is proud of the leadership, superior and friendly service and dedication to excellence that she and her staff have provided to the public for nearly two decades. “I initially ran at a time when there was tremendous turmoil in the Treasurer’s Office,” Thomas said. “In my time in the Treasurer’s Office, I have brought leadership, superior and friendly service, and a dedication to excellence.”

She said the department has received continuous recognition from the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia and the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia.
