Mathews May Faire takes place on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3 with this year’s theme being “Mathews Museum Celebrates VA250,” according to a release. May Faire is a project of the museum, which is located at 200 Main Street. Hours are 9-4 both days. Sunday’s activities are set to begin with a community church service, the release said.The event will explore “What was life really like in Mathews during the 1700s? How did colonists navigate the rhythms of daily life—work, family, survival, and celebration?” The event is a tribute to Virginia’s upcoming 250th anniversary and the pivotal events of 1776, the release said. The museum will feature a new diorama of the Battle of Cricket Hill created by local model enthusiast Don Goode. This detailed display will depict Gwynn’s Island, the mainland, Fort Hammond, the Ethiopian Regiment, and nearly 100 small boats from Lord Dunmore’s fleet gathered in Hills Bay, the release said.
