U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 66 will hold a Virginia Boating Safety Education Class from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad building in Hudgins. There is no cost to participate and those who successfully complete the course, and the 60-question test at the end, will receive a Virginia Boating Safety Education Certificate, which is valid for the boat operator’s lifetime. U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors will conduct the class, leading students through six chapters of the text before giving out the test. The certificate must be carried on board by the operator of all motorboats with 10 H.P. or larger engines. Students are asked to arrive at class by 8:15 to register and receive their Boat Virginia text. There will be a 45-minute lunch break where everyone is on their own.
