Supervisors consider update on boat yard design plans

Mathews County supervisors voted Monday night to get a quote from VHB Inc. on the cost of redesigning the engineering firm’s 2012 plan for the East River Boat Yard. The vote came during a workshop on development of the one-acre county-owned site, located at the end of Mill Lane Road in Bohannon.

The redesign would include placing a concrete boat ramp where the current dirt ramp is located rather than moving the ramp, as the 2012 plan suggests; installing a bulkhead instead of riprap; maximizing parking, which in the current plan includes 10 spaces, five of which would be for vehicles with trailers; and determining the viability of the old building located at the site. The current plan also includes a turnaround and a waterside deck and fishing pier.

The board voted 4-0-1 on the matter with supervisor Amy Dubois abstaining because she said her questions about the project had not been answered during discussion.
