Spriggs to address Mathews MLK program

The Mathews chapter of the NAACP will hold its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day program at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, at Antioch Baptist Church, Susan.

Sareeta Spriggs will be the program’s guest speaker. Spriggs, the daughter of Donnie and Faye Spiggs of Cardinal, was recently appointed Deputy Director of Operations and Finance in the Executive Office of Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser.

In that role, she provides strategic oversight in the areas of Emergency Preparedness, National Service and Volunteerism in the Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism and Partnerships. Over the years, Spriggs has received a number of awards including the Hampton Roads Inside Business Journal Top 40 Under 40; The National Urban League Eastern Region Young Professional of the Year and, most recently, the Strayer University 2018 Outstanding Alumni Award.
