Slated for demolition

The old bank building on Greate Road at Gloucester Point is soon to be demolished. Dave Malmquist, News and Media Director for the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, explained that structural concerns and its general poor condition led to the decision. “Interior demolition work is ongoing,” Malmquist said, “and demolition of the building itself is slated for this week or next depending on weather and other factors.” VIMS currently has several ideas for the possibility of a structure on or near the current footprint, though there are “no immediate plans for a specific replacement.” The building, which was once used for VIMS offices, was built around 1906-07, he said.
