Several local charities fare well during Amazing Raise

Several local nonprofit organizations fared well during last week’s Amazing Raise, a 36-hour online multi-organizational fundraising effort sponsored by the Richmond Community Foundation.

Held on Wednesday and Thursday, the fundraiser brought in $1.5 million for 467 nonprofits from Richmond to the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck.

To be eligible for a top prize, an organization had to bring in the most individual donations of $50 or more. Multiple donations by one individual did not count. However, all donations in any amount were accepted and added to the total raised.

Bonus prizes amounting to a total of $154,000 were awarded for contests that ran during the fundraiser, which could be won with donations of $25 or more.

Urban organizations generally raised the most money, had the most donors and won the most prizes. However, three local organizations ran with the big groups.
