Service to be cut to delinquent water accounts Friday

The Gloucester County Public Utilities Department announced that because its office will be closed on Nov. 22 and 23 for the Thanksgiving holiday, the department will be terminating water service to residents with delinquent utility bills this Friday.

On Friday, the county will issue disconnect work orders for delinquent payments not received by the Gloucester County Treasurer’s office before 8 a.m. that day, according to a release from the department. To have water service restored, citizens will be required to pay the current and delinquent amounts, plus a $35 disconnection fee.

According to the release, the utilities department is required by county ordinance to disconnect water service to any residence for a utility bill that is not paid by the 30th day of the month following water service. A disconnect notice will be mailed when a bill is delinquent, and in the event a water bill is delinquent for 15 days, the director will discontinue the water supply without notice.
