The Mathews County School Board approved its amended budget for the FY 2027 school year, as well as an amended budget for the current fiscal year, during Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting at the Brooks Auditorium at Thomas Hunter Middle School. Division CFO Emma Hundley gave a brief presentation on both budgets during Tuesday’s meeting. With the FY27 budget, she was dealing with a local appropriation of $8.5 million, which county supervisors had approved on April 30. The draft budget that the school board had originally submitted to the county called for a local contribution of $8.725 million, a difference of $225,000. Additionally, she indicated that the amended budget reflected an increase of $100,000 for Math Innovation grant reimbursements, $3,500 in Medicaid reimbursements, and added state revenue of $1,570 for CTE credentialing and certification, requiring the school board to reduce its budget by a little over $88,000 to balance.
