ROBERT (ROBBIE) CONNER WOOD

Robert (Robbie) Conner Wood, 58, of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on May 24, 2022, surrounded by family after a heroic battle with esophageal cancer. Words cannot begin to describe the loss we all face with his passing.

He was born to parents, Verlon and Mary Jane Wood, on Sept. 19, 1963 in Newport News, Virginia. Robbie graduated from Homer L. Ferguson High School in 1982. He married his high school sweetheart, Debbie, in 1985 and soon started a family. Looking for a better opportunity and slower pace of life, Robbie moved his family to Gloucester County in 1993.

A jack of all trades—he worked many jobs throughout the years and his biggest achievement was owning and operating his construction company, Wood Construction, Inc., which he started in 1995. Robbie and his son Jeremy obtained their Class A licenses together, working as a father and son team. A true craftsman, he was meticulous with his work and never settled for anything less than perfection.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Verlon and Mary Jane Wood; sisters, Delores Martin (Jimmy) and Donna Young (Bobby).

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Deborah M. Wood; daughter, Tabitha Wood Gollihugh (Jimmy); son, Jeremy Wood (Kelsey); sister, Debera Hall (Fuzzy); grandchildren, Cole and Kelsey Gollihugh and William Conner Wood; nieces and nephews, Travis, Jamie, Dallas, Brooke, Jessica and Ashton.

He loved his family to his core, and never let an opportunity to say “I love you” pass by. You could count on seeing his face in the crowd at every event for his children and grandchildren. He was truly the biggest cheerleader in every aspect of our lives. His personality was larger than life, and to know him was to love him. His heart was as big as his smile, and he loved us more than life itself.

On behalf of Robbie and his family, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Ko Ko Maung and his amazing staff at Riverside Peninsula Cancer Institute, Riverside Walter Reed Hospice and their compassionate team for all their incredible care, guidance and support during the last year.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Andrews Funeral Home in Gloucester, with a private celebration of life to follow for family and close friends. In lieu of sending flowers, please make donations to Riverside Peninsula Cancer Institute or Riverside Walter Reed Hospice.
