Robert H. Chinen, age 83, passed away at home in Hayes on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, and was reunited with his loving wife, Sylvia, in Heaven. Bob was born to the late Saburo and Chiyo Chinen in Kauai, Hawaii. Bob was a retired Army veteran with over 20 years of service and was a civil service employee for many years. He was also a devoted servant of his church, First Christian Church, for many years. He resided in Newport News for more than 50 years. In his free time, Bob enjoyed fishing and watching his favorite football team, the Washington Football Team. Robert is survived by his children, Kandy Insley (Dan) of Hayes, Troy Chinen (Nanette) of Kingsland, Ga., and Crystal A. Chinen (Emma) of Newport News, Va.; seven loving grandchildren, and four of his siblings, Dusty Chinen, Irene Rhee, Edward Chinen and Thomas Chinen. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sylvia. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
