Roadside cleanup set for April 27

This year’s Mathews Spring Roadside Cleanup, which is sponsored by the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 27. In case of rain, the cleanup will be postponed until Saturday, May 11.

Participants are asked to check in at 8 a.m. at the Mathews Visitor Center at 239 Main Street for a quick breakfast, sign-in, and route and safety information. Groups are responsible for their own transportation to and from their designated route and must have a supervisor over 18 years old.

The Visitor Center will supply bags, vests, gloves, and other equipment and it is recommended you wear long sleeves, long pants and waterproof shoes, said MCVIC Executive Director Emily Allen. At noon, groups will return their equipment, report their trash collection numbers and enjoy a free pizza lunch.
