RICHARD DOUGLAS HUDGINS

Richard Douglas Hudgins (Rickie), age 71, of Mathews, passed away at Riverside Regional Medical Center on Oct. 31, 2021 with his family by his side after a short illness. Rickie was born on April 2, 1950 and was preceded in death by his parents, Charles D. and Maida G. Hudgins.

Rickie was a graduate of Mathews High School, Class of ’68. After graduation he joined the U.S. Coast Guard, active and inactive for four years. He then worked for Tidewater Telephone Company in Gloucester, Va., and worked on the water which was always his passion. He was a very accomplished guitarist playing in a number of bands through the years, as well as performances throughout the state. He was an avid duck hunter, loved fishing, and was a true Washington Redskins fan.

He is survived by his much-adored daughter, Anna H. Jenkins (Preston); sister, Laurie H. Walden (Danny); brothers, Ronnie Hudgins (Maxine) and Kennie Hudgins; proud grandfather to Justin, Kevin, Nathan and Autumn Jenkins, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, B.J. Clark, Bobby West and Walt Stillman.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, from 12:30-2 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2 o’clock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gwynn’s Island Baptist Church, P.O. Box 26, Gwynn, Va. 23066. Special thanks to Walter Reed Hospital and Riverside Regional SICU for the outstanding care they gave to our loved one over the past week.
