RALPH WAYNE LOYD

Ralph Wayne Loyd of Gloucester, known as “Wayne” by all, born on March 26, 1948, passed away Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Beth Buras Loyd; his daughters, Amy Loyd (Scott), Becky Hudgins (Chris); grandchildren, Stephen Loyd, Shelby Loyd, Haley Hudgins, Collin Hudgins; sisters, Juanita Piggott and Lois Spires; stepmother, Jenny Loyd.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Annis Tilson Loyd; stepsister, Ruth Thomas (Jim); and stepbrother, Larry Campbell (Leila).

Wayne served honorably in the U.S. Army and achieved rank of sergeant and was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, having received the National Defense Service Medal, 2 0/S Bars, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Civil Actions Medal, 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Expert Rifle M14, M16, Vietnam Service Metal with 2 Bronze Stars, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Wayne was self-employed as a contractor for most of his adult life, having been involved in n the construction of the many residential and commercial projects on the Peninsula and beyond. Later, he was employed as a Structural Building Inspector for York County.

On a personal note, Wayne was a very private, deeply caring, hardworking individual. He was an animal lover, NASCAR fan and avid outdoorsman. A man of few words, when he spoke, people would listen. Wayne was of the Baptist faith and regularly read scripture. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife to the mountains of Virginia and to the Southwest.

Visitation will be held at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory 7192 Main Street, Gloucester, Va. 23061, Friday, Feb. 19, 10-11 a.m. with the service beginning at 11 o’clock. Burial with military honors will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Va. 23666 at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19.
