Pulling weeds

Mathews Memorial Library patron Hunter Owens, at the urging of his mother and library staff member Carol Owens, visited the library on Friday and applied his gardening skills to the library grounds, where weeds were flourishing. He was joined by his brother Hayden (not pictured). Both of the young men expressed concern that patrons and visitors were being greeted by dandelions and other unwelcome occupants. The result is a much more attractive entrance to the library, said Library Director Bette Dillehay, adding that the staff is hopeful that the youths’ efforts will be rewarded by others offering to assist in maintaining the well-travelled entrance area.
