PRESSLEY BYRNES WHITE

Pressley Byrnes White Jr. of Gloucester, Virginia, died peacefully on April 12, 2022 after a brief illness. “PB” was born in Norfolk on Aug. 22, 1941 and grew up on 66th Street in Virginia Beach, the quintessential beach boy. He loved the beach, the ocean, and working at The Marshalls, first setting up beach chairs as a young boy and then as a lifeguard for many years. He attended Virginia Beach High School and graduated from Hampden-Sydney College, and after a career in finance, he worked in the private sector. Later he founded Commonwealth Travel, where he curated custom itineraries for savvy travelers. Blessed with the gift of gab, an infectious laugh, and an insatiable curiosity, PB loved travel, England, history, books, music, the Yankees, the Redskins, his friends, his family, and above all, his son, Patrick.

He was predeceased by his parents, Pressley and Veronica White, and his aunt, Elizabeth Toepelman. He is survived by his son, Evans Patrick White (Hallie) and his grandson, Leo, of Brooklyn, N.Y. A celebration of PB’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society (P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061; gmhumanesociety.org), where PB was longtime board member and devoted supporter.
