Poropotank Creek bridge open to traffic

Construction was completed last week on a new bridge on Route 14 (Buena Vista Road/Adner Road) over the Poropotank Creek at the Gloucester County/King and Queen County line, and the road was reopened to through traffic last Thursday afternoon, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Virginia’s State of Good Repair program funded the estimated $3.4 million bridge replacement project. Vehicles of all legal weights are permitted to travel over it.

Through traffic on Route 14 was detoured for approximately six months during construction. The new two-lane bridge is located on Route 14 approximately one mile west of the intersection with Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway).

The new bridge provides four-foot-wide road shoulders, and new pavement and guardrail was added on the bridge approaches.
