The Gloucester County Planning Commission is holding two public hearings tonight, Thursday, June 4, regarding the creation of a child care facility and a new 7-Eleven convenience store, both in Gloucester Point, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the colonial courthouse. The applicant for the child care facility is Stephenson’s Child Care & Development, Inc. and is seeking approval of a conditional use permit to reopen and resume its operations. The facility is located in the single-family (SF-1) zoning district and operated for several decades as a child care center. After closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stephenson’s Child Care lost its grandfathered status to operate in SF-1 since it existed before Gloucester County had an established zoning ordinance. This now requires Stephenson’s to obtain a CUP from the county to reopen.
