Planners to discuss proposed electric energy storage facility tonight

The Gloucester County Planning Commission will discuss the proposed construction of an electric energy storage facility when it meets at 7 o’clock tonight in the T.C. Walker Education Center Auditorium.

The electric storage facility would be approximately one acre in size and would be adjacent to Dominion Energy’s existing substation in the Gloucester Business Park, off Route 17 south of Gloucester Court House. The current zoning is I-1, Light Industrial. Dominion would own the facility but Strata Solar would build it.

Staff documents state that the planners will either determine the facility’s consistency with Gloucester’s Comprehensive Plan, which is subject to a determination by the board of supervisors whether a public hearing by the commission is required or determine that a public hearing is warranted prior to making a determination of consistency and direct staff to move forward with a public hearing for August.
