Planners to consider solar energy zoning change

The Gloucester Planning Commission will consider a proposed zoning change addressing large-scale solar energy facilities in the county when it meets at 7 o’clock tonight in the colonial courthouse.

A public hearing on CA-19-05 Utility-Scale Solar in the county’s rural countryside (RC-1) district will begin at 7:30 p.m.

According to staff documents, “the proposed ordinance amendment would require a Conditional Use Permit for utility-scale solar energy facilities in RC-1.” It also states that “the proposed ordinance adds conditions whereby sureties and decommissioning plans may be re-reviewed periodically, sets out responsibilities for third-party inspections, and adds a phasing component for facilities that exceed two-hundred acres in area.”
